Ngezana’s key role in the Romanian giants’ success backed by statistics

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana has played a key role in Romanian giants FCSB’s title onslaught this season, and his impressive statistics back his importance.

Ngezana switched from the PSL giants, Chiefs ahead of the 2023/24 SuperLiga season. The centre-back has since established himself as one of the club’s key players.

With Ngezana at the back, the club is doing well in the league this campaign, sitting at the top of the log.

The first few months were difficult for the lanky defender, lacking game time as he was still adjusting and settling into the team.

All-in-all, he missed the first nine matches in all competitions, only sitting twice on the bench.

The 26-year-old had a debut to forget on 23 August against FC UTA Arad. He came in as a second-half substitute as they lost 2-1. This was their first league defeat of the season after five straight victories.

For his solid and consistent performances at the back, he has helped the team to keep five clean sheets in the process.

Ngezana has been directly involved in two goals. In September, the defender opened his scoring account for the club in a 2-0 win over Bihor in the Romanian Cup.

He then assisted in a 2-2 draw against FC Universitatea Cluj in the league earlier in October. His display against Farul Constantsa on 18 September 2023 sums up his importance in the FCSB rear guard.

In 90 minutes, he made six clearances, won four duels out of six, and made two interceptions. He had five blocked shots and an 83% pass completion rate [30/36].
