‘Are you sure they’re criticising me?’: Riveiro on Pirates fans
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has commented on criticism that’s said to be coming from fans following his team’s recent struggles.
The Buccaneers haven’t tasted a victory in their last four games. Their last win was two weeks ago in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final against Cape Town Spurs.
Meanwhile, they have had a nasty start to the DStv Premiership campaign, picking up only nine points from eight games. That leaves them in the 13th position on the log standings and 15 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
This poor spell has spoiled their hopes of challenging the Brazilians for the league title. Meanwhile, this past Saturday, Pirates were eliminated from the Carling Knockout by Richards Bay.
Speaking after the game, Riveiro said supporters will always pick holes even when they win. However, he believes he hasn’t lost their backing.
JOSE RIVEIRO SAYS EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT OPINIONS IN FOOTBALL
“Really? I don’t have an opinion about the fans,” said Riveiro after the match on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“Fans are fans, we lost today, they must be upset. Really? Are you sure they’re criticising the coach?
“Even if we win, the fans are gonna be upset because I didn’t play this player and I played the other one. Everybody has opinions in football, everyone even you [journalists] guys.
“But there’s nothing I can do. The only thing we can do is sleep well, eat well, and recover because on Tuesday we have to compete again.
“Tomorrow in the afternoon is minus 1, think about it. When we finish our training it will be minus 1 for us. We will try our best again.”
The Sea Robbers will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Sekhukhune United in the league match on Tuesday, 7 November at 7:30 at Orlando Stadium.
Thereafter, they lock horns with their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a Soweto derby on Saturday, 11 November at 15:30 at the FNB Stadium.
