Cape Town City chairman on what’s been the hold-up in signing Billiat

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has revealed what has been the hold-up in signing former Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat.

Billiat has been a free agent since parting ways with Chiefs before the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign.

He spent five seasons with Amakhosi after signing from Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of the 2018/19 season.

The Zimbabwean international made over 100 appearances for Chiefs, scoring 24 goals while making 29 assists.

The pacey winger has been on the radar of several clubs including the Pitso Mosimane-coached team Al Wahda in UAE.

With Billiat heavily linked with Cape Town City, Commitis has explained what has delayed his side in concluding the deal.

“I’ve not had contact with Khama [Billiat], we were very honest with him and waiting for him to make a decision on his future in where he would like to see himself,” said Comitis on Metro FM.

“I think he’s still in the efforts to try and find something in the Middle East which would be rather lucrative for him.

“So we sit and wait for his response, at this point that’s where we’ve left it.

“Lebo Manyama had a conversation with him and who wouldn’t want to have Khama in his team?” asked the chairman.

It remains to be seen whether Billiat will end up making a switch to the Cape Town-based side in the near future.

Meanwhile, City are currently on an impressive four-game winning streak and are sitting fourth on the league table.

The Citizens have won six games in the league, drawing one while losing four times in 11 games they’ve played.

They will be aiming to win their fifth game in a row when they face Royal AM on Friday, 10 November at Cape Town Stadium. Kickoff is at 19:30.
