Chippa United announce surprise departure

DStv Premiership side Chippa United have announced a surprise departure from their technical team.

The Chilli Boys have had an inconsistent start to the 2023/24 campaign as they lie eighth on the league log standings.

Chippa won three games in the league, drawing five while losing on three occasions after 11 games. They have accumulated 14 points.

Morgan Mammila has been steering the Chippa United ship after taking over from Lehlohonolo Seema, who left the club at the end of last season.

The Gqeberha-based side beefed up their technical team in September with Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who was appointed the club’s technical director.

Vilakazi who joined Chippa after a shocking exit from Golden Arrows has resigned barely two months into his new job.

“While his tenure with us was unexpectedly brief, we respect Mr Vusumuzi’s decision to step down.

“Mr Vilakazi’s decision has indeed come as a surprise as we had looked forward to longer collaboration, drawing on his fresh perspective and youthful vigour.

“However, we respect his choice to persue the next chapter in his professional journey. In moving forward, we thank Mr Vilakazi for his service and close this chapter with mutual respect and goodwill.”

In their previous league game, Chippa lost 2-1 against Cape Town City on Wednesday, 7 November at Cape Town Stadium.

The Chippa Mpengesi-owned team last won a match on the 26th of September when they beat SuperSport United 1-0 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Chippa will be looking to end their three-match winless run when they face Stellenbosch FC on Saturday at Nelson Mandela Bay. Kickoff is at 20:00.
