Lehlohonolo Seema: “SuperSport is a cup specialist..”

Following the Carling Knockout Last 16 draw, Polokwane City co-coach Lehlohonolo Seema reckons they face one of the best cup competition specialists in the PSL.

Seema was first to admit that his side still has a lot of work to perfect. Rise and Shine have had a promising start to the 2023/24 season as they are fifth on the DStv Premiership log standings.

And their Carling Knockout Last 16 draw against SuperSport United has presented yet another reality check of the tough path ahead of them.

Lehlohonolo Seema believes SuperSport United are one of the best cup specialists in the PSL.

“We are up for a tough game. SuperSport [United] is a cup specialist. We know and with coach Gavin [Hunt] who is a very experienced coach, who has experience even of winning the league.

“We are just up for a very difficult march. As Polokwane City, we are going to prepare expecting it to be a difficult match.

“We are playing in Polokwane and it is the only thing making us happy, that we are not travelling,” Seema.

Seema, who saved Chippa United from relegation last season, has high hopes that their form in the league will be key in the Carling Cup.

“We are still on the right track, we are not punching above our weight. We have achieved nothing at the moment.

“So there is still a lot of work to do. There are games that we have won, which were very close. There are games that we have drawn, that were very close.

“What makes us happy is the fight. Whatever that happens in the game, if you put everything and work hard, we are giving ourselves a chance of getting the points,” Seema added.

The former Chippa United and Golden Arrows coach Seema resurfaced at Rise and Shine in July. He was roped in to work hand in glove with Duncan Lechesa and Phuti Mohafe.

Meanwhile, all the 16 DStv Premiership teams are involved in the Carling Knockout Last 16.

The tournament winner will play an All-Star team in the Carling Black Label Cup in Polokwane on 6 January 2024. And fans will have a say on who will feature in the All-Star team as well as the coach.
