‘Coaching Kaizer Chiefs is not difficult’ – Cavin Johnson
Following Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-0 defeat against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership on Saturday, Amakhosi interim coach Cavin Johnson has claimed that coaching the club is not ‘difficult’.
Johnson has been entrusted with the role to lead Chiefs on an interim basis, replacing Molefi Ntseki, who was fired last month.
Ntseki’s being shown the exit door came as a result of Chiefs’ poor start to the 2023/24 season which saw the club bow out of two domestic competitions.
The Soweto giants were eliminated from the MTN8 semi-finals by Mamelodi Sundowns earlier in the season. After that, they lost out on another trophy after losing to AmaZulu FC in the Carling Knockout Cup last 16.
In the DStv Premiership, the Naturena-based side suffered their sixth loss after losing the Soweto Derby against Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Chiefs have only won four games in the league, drawing two while losing in six occasions in 12 matches. They are sitting ninth on the log with 14 points.
With Chiefs dubbed as one of the hardest teams to coach due to pressure from high-demanding supporters, Johnson reckons it’s easy to coach the club.
CAVIN JOHNSON RECKONS COACHING CHIEFS IS EASY
“It’s something [coaching Chiefs] that I find very easy. I think the pressure comes from you guys [the media]” said Johnson.
“Yes the fans also because you write. I think it’s the pressure that comes from the fact that this team is big and they have so much fans.
“There’s so many of them [fans] to please that people think it’s difficult to coach this team, no it’s not. It’s about the cloth that runs through this team that we need to respect.
“And sometimes, we don’t respect it. We don’t respect the work this man [Vina Maphosa: Chiefs communications manager] who sit next me. I think sometimes you must put pressure on them because they lead the team.
“They not playing the game. ut they play the game, I’m saying that it’s about coming to Kaizer Chiefs and understanding, who Dr Kaizer [Motaung] is, who Kaizer Chiefs are.
“And making sure that the personnel that’s within the team know what this team is about. And also know what Kaizer Chiefs fans are all about.”
