Khune makes bold claim about underfire Brandon Petersen
Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has made a bold claim about his fellow teammate and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.
This comes after Petersen was dropped and left out of Chiefs’ last three DStv Premiership matches.
Interim coach Calvin Johnson stated the reason for dropping Petersen as a ‘psychological’ matter insisting that Amakhosi are protecting the goalie.
Petersen has had a difficult 2023/24 PSL season, facing criticism from Chiefs’ faithful for his costly schoolboy errors that have seen the team drop points and bow out of the MTN8.
The 29-year-old has been the Glamour Boys’ preferred choice in between the sticks since the beginning of the season.
His statistics are not so good, so far. He has made 11 appearances in all competitions and let it 10 goals. He has managed to only keep four clean sheets in the process.
ITUMELENG KHUNE CLAIMS BRANDON PETERSEN HAS POTENTIAL TO PLAY FOR BAFANA BAFANA
Khune has claimed that Petersen is a great goalkeeper despite his recent form, saying he is the future Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
“He’s a great goalkeeper since he came to the club. He’s a future Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and I support him on that,” said Khune.
“I say to him, ‘don’t drop your head, don’t give up, keep pushing, keep working hard and your best will come.’
“He has played more games than me in the past two or three seasons. It shows that he’s good and shows that he’s got great potential.
Khune, who is set to retire at the end of the current season further believes the captain’s armband will be in safe hands with Petersen.
This season in the absence of Khune and Keagan Dolly on the field, Petersen has always been handed the responsibility of being the captain.
“As the captain of the club, I’m grooming him on my way out. When the legs cannot carry me anymore, the armband will be in safe hands,” Khune added.
