Chiefs legend urges patience in search for ‘right fit’ coach

Following the recent departure of coach Molefi Ntseki, Kaizer Chiefs legend William Shongwe has urged the club to exercise patience in its search for a new coach.

Shongwe believes that the club must prioritise finding the right fit rather than rushing into a decision.

Amakhosi parted ways with Ntseki last month after just four months at the helm. Cavin Johnson is holding fort on an interim basis. The club is currently on the search for a new man who could bring in fresh ideas and instil a new sense of direction.

Shongwe believes finding the right person for the job may take time, and requires patience from everyone involved at the club. He stressed the importance of conducting thorough due diligence during the selection process.

The PSL side, Chiefs have not won a trophy in eight years and are eager to end the drought. “This thing has fallen flat, don’t rush,” Shongwe told FARPost. “If Cavin has the nerves to hold onto this thing and see how far he can go. He’s an astute coach.

“He might just tweak a few things and come right, he needs his own time as well. Chiefs has no business to rush. January is going to be like that with the Nations Cup.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper also urged fans to remain supportive during this challenging period.

“This time that Cavin has now up until December will be enough for Chiefs to make a decision to say do they need someone to come in January to do his own pre-season and prepare for his second part of the season,” he added.

Shongwe’s insights provide valuable guidance as DStv Premiership side. Amakhosi navigates the search for a new coach. His understanding of the club’s culture and his knowledge of the players’ capabilities make him a credible voice in this matter.

“You can’t rush, you can’t make a decision now. Wait until December, see what happens and then they can take stock. Make a clean, good decision thereafter.

“Right now, let Chiefs find their man. Even if Cavin does well for me, give him a chance. If you bring someone else it’ll break what Cavin was doing. Let him build up on that, maybe let’s just throw the season through the window and start planning for next year,” Shongwe concluded.
