Sundowns legend Joel ‘Fire’ Masilela resurfaces at Limpopo club
The presence of Mamelodi Sundowns legend and youth coach Joel ‘Fire’ Masilela at a Limpopo club has been explained.
Masilela was a Sundowns Men’s Under /15 coach until recently when he was relinquished from the position.
The 53-year-old has since been spotted at Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Ditlou FC. Ditlou is a Groblersdal-based side that participates in stream B of the SAFA promotional league.
FARPost reached out to the owner of the club Mash Maila who explained that Masilela was not their head coach but merely advising the current technical team.
WHAT ROLE IS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LEGEND PLAYING AT LIMPOPO SIDE?
“We have not given him a role. He is here to guide the coach that we are having now,” said Maila.
“As you know there are still issues that he still has to conclude with Sundowns and we don’t know when that will be. That’s why he is just here to come and help us in an advisory role,” he said.
ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE CLUB DELIGHTED TO HAVE JOEL MASILELA
“Masilela has been helping a lot. I know him from the academy [at Sundowns]. So that’s why I have asked him to come down here to help me with the team,” added Maila.
“Obviously, if we are happy with the progress that he is making with the team then we can wait for his issues to complete at Sundowns and take it from there.”
The club recently parted ways with coach Alex Bapela who had been in charge for the past two seasons. Maila is confident that this is their time to climb the ladder to the professional ranks.
“Our ambition has always been to see ourselves at the next level. We don’t want to see ourselves in the ABC Motsepe League after the end of this season, we just want to see this club in the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.”
