Chiefs secure late win against Swallows: What are the talking points?
Kaizer Chiefs secured a 1-0 late win over Moroka Swallows in a DStv Premiership Soweto Derby clash at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Christian Saile’s 82nd minute goal was enough for Amakhosi to walk away with maximum points away from home, and claimed the Soweto Derby bragging rights.
Below are the talking points from this league showdown between Swallows and Chiefs.
BRUCE BVUMA RETURNS BETWEEN THE STICKS
The absence of Itumeleng Khune who is allegedly arrived at the training session under the influence of alcohol and set to appear before the club’s disciplinary hearing, gave a chance to Bvuma to start with the game.
This was the first game for Bvuma this season in Amakhosi colours. The goalie managed to keep a clean sheet in the process.
Meanwhile, Brandon Petersen was on the bench after missing Chiefs’ last two games against Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates. The shot-stopper was subjected to a lot of criticism having committed plenty of costly errors.
UNAVAILABLE PLAYERS FOR CHIEFS
Despite the absence of Itumeleng Khune, Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, right-winger Ashely Du Preez, midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane, and left-winger Keagan Dolly were all ruled out for today’s game due to injuries.
Coach Cavin Johnson confirmed the news before the kick-off of the Soweto Derby clash this afternoon.
KOMPHELA’S WINLESS STREAK AGAINST KAIZER CHIEFS CONTINUES
Steve Komphela has never won a game against the Glamour Boys as a head coach since leaving the club in 2015.
He has faced Chiefs on five occasions, playing draw two times and losing three in the process.
THE MATCH DID NOT LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS
The game failed to produce a fascinating game. As many would have thought a Soweto Derby would be despite Chiefs’ late goal that secured them three points.
