Hunt reveals what he has accepted about SuperSport United of today

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt

Gavin Hunt has spoken out about what he has learnt to live with at SuperSport United having come back for the second stint at the club.

The 59-year-old tactician was welcomed back by the Tshwane giants at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. He replaced Kaitano Tembo who had been sacked in April 2022.

Hunt was hoping to replicate the success he achieved with the club during his first spell between 2007 and 2013. He won three league titles consecutively and the Nedbank Cup.

As heโ€™s been in the rebuilding process, he has admitted the big blow of losing key players like Thapelo Maseko, Patrick Maswanganyi and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe in the past transfer window.

However, he says he has accepted that the club is now about developing players and keeping the league status unlike in the past where they kept their best players and could then compete for trophies.

He added that he wants to win and has to figure out how to make it work.

HUNT SAYS LOSING MASEKO, DITLHOKWE AND MASWANGAYI PULLED THEM BACK

โ€œThapelo Maseko went, it was a huge blow for me, TT [Thatayaone Ditlhokwe] went, huge blow, and Patrick [Maswanganyi] went, huge blow,โ€ said Hunt.

โ€œYou know we were building, so, now we have to try and fix it again.

โ€œI got sat down and told under no circumstances. This way or the highway, play with the kids, build the team, build players.

โ€œYou know we cut the budget byโ€ฆI wouldnโ€™t even tell you by how much, huge. So, itโ€™s what it is, you want to do it or you donโ€™t want to do it.

โ€œObviously, we want to win but maybe I have to try and win another way. We havenโ€™t been great so far in the cups, thatโ€™s what is gonna happen.

โ€œLetโ€™s look after our league status, thatโ€™s the most important thing, isnโ€™t it?โ€
