Gavin Hunt voices out frustration of losing key players to Sundowns

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has voiced out his frustration of losing key players to cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Masandawana beat SuperSport United 2-0 in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday night to break a new PSL record.

The victory over SuperSport in the Tshwane Derby saw Sundowns becoming the first club in the PSL era to register nine successive wins in the new season.

Sundowns moved to the summit of the league table with 27 points after claiming the bragging rights in the Tshwane derby.

Meanwhile, Gavin Hunt has expressed the displeasure of losing their key players to the Brazilians, revealing that it’s not good for the club.

Players who have made a switch from SuperSport to Sundowns in recent years are Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba, Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule, Ronwen Williams, and Thapelo Maseko.

When asked what would help SuperSport to close the gap on Sundowns Hunt said, “We need players and Sundowns buy the players what do you want me to do?

“We got a budget and we run with a budget, it has been cut right down. So the whole thing filters down and obviously the club is running much tighter now.

“We sold one boy [Thapelo Maseko] to Sundowns for a lot of money, but that doesn’t help us, it doesn’t help the team. It helps financially to get one or two players.

“We couldn’t use [Etiosa] Ighodaro, we couldn’t use [Ricardo] Goss, so it is what it is and we have to soldier on.

“The club is different from when I was here for the first time when we won the league, it was more equal.

“Sundowns bought all those players, Denis Onyango, Elias Pelembe, they all went. And we had to build another team. You guys judge us on losing games, they [Sundowns] should beat us 8-0.” Hunt added.
