Two factors why Sundowns players won’t drop the ball
Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Luvhengo Mungomeni has revealed two factors why Masandawana’s players won’t drop the ball.
The red-hot Sundowns recently broke a new record for nine consecutive in the DStv Premiership, a record once held by Kaizer Chiefs in the 2014/15 season.
This comes after they eased past their cross-town arch-rivals Supersport United by a 2-0 scoreline at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bafana Ba Style moved back to the summit of the DStv Premiership log standings following their win, marking their first league clash in 6 weeks.
To add to that, the Brazilians are due to play catch-up games to equal with other teams in the top flight. Thus far, they have played nine matches out of the possible 13 matches played by other teams.
The Chloorkop-based outfit has been one of the busiest South African sides this season.
The club has recently won the inaugural African Football League [AFL]. In reference to that, they are also partaking in the ongoing CAF Champions League.
TWO FACTORS BY LUVHENGO MUNGOMENI
The ex-Sundowns defender, Mungmeni, has since highlighted two factors why Bafana Ba Style players won’t drop the ball and continue to perform as they are currently doing.
FACTOR 1: FORM
“For me, looking at how Sundowns are doing now, it is going to be a very good season for Sundowns. I don’t think they will drop the form,” Mungomeni told FARPost.
“The only focus now from the players, obviously achieving what they have achieved is very good but personally, I don’t think when you are playing for a team like Sundowns you will have to drop your performance because once you drop your performance, the other players might come in and take that position.
“So, I think for me, it is to concentrate now on the league and CAF Champions League, which is a lot of money obviously.”
FACTOR 2: PLAYING FOR INCENTIVES
The retired footballer has noted that as of now, the players are playing for incentives, looking at what they have achieved and what they are currently challenging for, in terms of competitions.
“I think right now they are also playing for incentives because it is no longer about playing just for playing. They were playing for the league,” he added.
“The main focus is on incentives because after winning the African Football League, there’s a lot at stake. They will have to continue with the form because once you drop the form, the players who are doing well this season will want to join Sundowns in the coming season, which is not gonna be easy and you know the squad is huge.
“Insight for continuality, Sundowns will be shifting focus to the CAF Champions League this weekend as they face Congolese side, TP Mazembe at Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday at 15:00.
