Chippa United in turmoil as salary crisis hits

Chippa United is facing mounting financial pressure with reports of unpaid November salaries.

The DStv Premiership side reportedly paid players last week for November and promised to pay the coaching staff on the 7th of December.

Information reaching FARPost is that management made assurances that the salaries would be paid a week into the new month.

However, the club has yet to shell out the wages of their technical team. The club’s chairman, Chippa Mpengesi, ignored calls and Whatsapp text enquiries by FARPost.

Exactly an hour after an enquiry was sent to him via text, Chippa’s coach, Morgan Mammila, reportedly told his technical team that “the chairman was complaining that FARPost was calling them about salaries”.

When contacted for comment, the Eastern Cape side’s media officer, Olwethu Bovungana, referred questions to the general manager, Sandiso Mpengesi. Mpengesi, son of the Chippa supremo, also ignored calls by FARPost.

MORGAN MAMMILA DENIES UNPAID SALARIES ISSUE AT CHIPPA UNITED

Mammila, on the other hand, flatly denied that there was any unpaid staffer at the club.

“I’m 100% sure everyone is paid,” Mammila told FARPost. “You know people always talk. Maybe they don’t know what to say about Chippa United.”

Despite his denial, FARPost can confirm that by 17h30 on Friday, the affected staffers alleged they were yet to receive their salaries.

However, this is not the first time that Chippa United has been accused of late payment of salaries. Chippa were recently slapped with a FIFA transfer ban over a dispute with Tanzanian player Abdi Banda, who claims he is owed R1.2 million in unpaid earnings.

The latest allegations against Chippa United raise serious questions about the club’s financial stability. The Chilli Boys host Golden Arrows in their next league encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. They are coming from a 2-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United on Wednesday and would want to bounce back to winning ways.

Chippa are 13th on the DStv Premiership table after winning three of their fixtures, drawing six times and losing four.
