2023 CAF Awards: South Africans claim top honors

Mamelodi Sundowns, Percy Tau and Desiree Ellis claimed top honours at the 2023 CAF awards on Monday night. It’s the fourth Women’s Coach of the Year award for Banyana Banyana coach Ellis who also won it in 2018, 2019, and 2022. 

The awards were held at the Palais des Congres in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday night. It is the second year in a row that Morocco host the CAF Awards with last year’s event happening in Rabat.

“Today we are recognizing the best of the best in Africa, celebrating them. Africa has always for many decades produced some of the best players in the world. Some of them have succeeded in Europe and the highest level in Africa,” said CAF president Patrice Motsepe in his opening remarks.

“We are continuing today to make sure that the very best continues to get recognized Worldwide and also want to make sure that football in Africa is globally competitive and self-sustaining. Has the capacity to prepare an African nation.”

The winner of each category was decided following votes from a panel consisting of CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from Member Associations. Head Coaches and captains of member associations as well as clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions.
