Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has weighed in on whether their grueling schedule is taking it’s toll on the team.
In the month of December, Sundowns’ calender is tight with eight matches as they had to participate in both the DStv Premiership and CAF Champions League respectively.
So far, they have played three matches and they have managed to register a win, a draw and suffered a defeat in the process.
To add to Tshwane giant’s vows of match schedule, they got 10 stars that are ruled out of action due to different injury setbacks. This includes the likes of Brian Onyango, Mothobi Mvala, Rushine De Reuck, Aubrey Modiba, Rivaldo Coetzee, Neo Maema, Thando Buthelezi, Siyanda Nyanga, Junior Mendieta and Bathusi Aubaas.

Mokwena says it’s a challenge and it’s hard to play so many matches in a month. He really feels sorry for his players because they have to play in every three, four days and they don’t have enough time to rest.

“These games are not easy, I do feel sorry for my players. It’s a very difficult month with so many games [eight],” said Mokwena.
“Everybody wants to beat us, everybody feels like we got to play at a certain level, understanding how difficult it is to keep going. Every three days you in camp and you travelling.
“It’s just type of programme and we have to go on with it. Like I always say, they say the head that carries the crown is in it.
“We carrying the crown at the moment, everyone wants to say they are the first to beat Sundowns. That’s the responsibility and the burden that we carry at the moment.”
