‘I’m not pointing fingers but…’: Khenyeza on Arrows struggles

A critical Mabhuti Khenyeza has spoken out frankly about what has led to Golden Arrows’ recent struggles as they have lost six games on the trot.

Abafana Bes’thende suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon at the Mpumalanga Stadium.

The KZN outfit had a good start to the season and at some point, they sat in second place behind the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns

Things suddenly went south when their seven-match unbeaten run was ended by AmaZulu who beat them 3-0 in the Carling Knockout Cup.

Asked by reporters about Arrows’ rough patch after a loss to the Buccaneers, Khenyeza appeared to blame his players for “individual mistakes” as their losing streak continued on Sunday.

MABHUTI KHENYEZA BLAMES HIS TROOPS FOR INDIVIDUAL MISTAKES

“I think it’s individual mistakes, not the group’s mistakes in that ball [that led to Orlando Pirates goal]. You are supposed to play a forward pass, but they played a back pass, which is negative, inviting the opposition to come,” said Khenyeza.

“Those are the individual mistakes of one person. You need to remind the players that when you make a mistake, it changes the whole game.

“I don’t point fingers at the players, but we need to improve because most of the games we lose are because of individual mistakes. And then everything changes.

“We played against Chippa, unnecessary foul in front of the box. They couldn’t even come at us, but they scored.

“Now, our problem is these small mistakes by individuals and they cost us games or we concede goals. And when oppositions come, we don’t punish them.”

ARROWS TO FACE GALAXY IN NEXT LEAGUE MATCH

Khenyeza’s men are currently seventh on the log standings with 20 points after 14 matches.

They will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they host TS Galaxy in a league match on Saturday, 23 December at 3:30 pm at the Mpumalanga Stadium.
