Alex Bapela set to ditch Dondol Stars for big DStv Premiership gig

Former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Alex Bapela is set to ditch ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars for a big DStv Premiership gig.

Bapela joined Dondol Stars at the start of the 2023/24 campaign to serve as a co-coach with Khuliso Rashamuse.

Dondol brought in the experienced Bapela as they want to push for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

‘Chaba Re Fete’, as the club is affectionately known, made a name for themselves after a good run in the 2023 Nedbank Cup. Dondol beat top-flight clubs like SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC to reach the tournament’s quarter-finals.

They lost in the quarter-finals against the Soweto giants Orlando Pirates 5-4 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw in extra-time.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED LINING-UP MOVE FOR ALEX BAPELA

Just a few months since taking over at Dondol Stars, Alex Bapela is close to joining Sekhukhune United. He is touted as the club’s next technical director.

“People at Sekhukhune United are my friends. I always visit the team regularly,” Bapela told FARPost when asked about the Sekhukhune move.

While the former Bafana Bafana international denied joining Babina Noko, FARPost understands he’s in the final stages of joining them.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo-based side has had an inconsistent start to the 2023/24 campaign. The indifferent start saw them sack head coach Brandon Truter.

Sekhukhune United is lying 11th on the league table with 17 points in 14 games. They won five games, drawing two while losing seven times.

Lehlohonolo Seema recently took over as head coach at Sekhukhune United, replacing Truter. The former Chippa United mentor started the season in the books of Polokwane City before resigning due to ‘personal reasons’.
