Pablo Franco reacts to Moremi’s links with Pirates and Sundowns

AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Franco Martin has reacted to the links of the club’s winger Tshepang Moremi to Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Moremi returned to Usuthu at the beginning of this season having spent the previous campaign on loan at JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He has been one of the leading lights in Martin’s side, missing only one match in all competitions that Usuthu have been involved in so far.

According to the reports, the winger has caught the eye of the Tshwane giants and the Buccaneers.

Martin was asked by reporters how he would manage Tshepang Moremi mentally having learnt about the interests from Gauteng.

He first commended the attacker for improving and lauded him for making it into the Bafana Bafana’s AFCON preliminary squad.

Martin says it would be important for the player to focus on where they are at the moment to avoid dropping the ball. He went on to speak about the danger of feeling like a “superstar” when big opportunities come your way.

“Our players are doing a great job, they are growing up, and our responsibility is to give them the tools to continue doing that,” said Martin.

“There are individuals who are mentally stronger and better prepared and who can hold those situations [being linked to so-called big clubs].

“But some of them are weak, and you have many examples not only in this team but in this country of players who are doing good and are becoming successful very quickly.

“Then they sign for other teams and finally after that, you don’t know anything else about those players.

“This is what I hope our players avoid. First of all, be present where you are and perform for us. And then if one day they leave [they must] fight for the positions to know that they are football players and not superstars.

“And they keep growing and have an opportunity to go to better places and play in those spaces there for the rest of their careers and not dropping or losing their minds.”
