Nengomasha questions Kaizer Chiefs’ scouting
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha has questioned the club’s scouting department, which he thinks is their vulnerable point.
The Soweto giants have been plotting how to break their eight-season trophy drought. And they have seriously flexed their muscles in the transfer market.
However, they have yet to yield any results, something which has constantly angered their insatiable fans.
In the last window, they made high-profile signings, bringing in Given Msimango from TS Galaxy and Mduduzi Mdantsane from Cape Town City. They also lured Thatayaone Ditlhokwe from SuperSport United. Gangly striker Ranga Chivaviro also joined them from Marumo Gallants.
The Glamour Boys went on to poach Pule Mmodi from Durban-based Golden Arrows. Tebogo Potsane, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and Luke Fleurs complete the list of players that were signed locally.
In addition, they pinned down Venezuelan Edson Castillo as well as Efmamjjasond Gonzales Palacios.
Nengomasha points a finger at scouting
Somehow, the new signings have hardly injected hope into the Soweto giants’ spirit. They are yet to really click this season having also changed hands from Molefi Ntseki to Cavin Johnson.
And this has left former midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha questioning if the team scouts are doing their job diligently.
“Is the scouting doing enough? Are the players being signed good enough? and do they have the right mind?” Nengomasha asked in an interview with FARPost.
“The issue is probably the scouting and if they are doing their homework well. Chiefs need players with a strong mind because of the demands. Can they justify some of these signings of these new players?
“The nature of players we see is probably not at the level of playing for the club. They might be talented but don’t fit into the team well because of the weight of expectations.”
Asked about the type of coach the club needs, Nengomasha responded: “They don’t need any kind of special coach. But there is a need to respect the system.
“I repeat again that scouting must be robust. First, the system must be strong, and then the coach will fit.”
As a player, the General, as he was fondly known, won significant trophies with the Naturena-based club, including the league title.
In 2004, Nengomasha won the PSL Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year awards.
