Ex-Swallows striker scoring goals for fun in SAFA Regional League

A former Moroka Swallows striker is scoring goals for fun in the SAFA Johannesburg Regional League, proving that experience cannot be bought.

So far, the player has scored a total of 20 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions for his boyhood club Lesco FC.

To break it down, he scored 11 goals in eight league games, whereas the other nine goals came from the provincial Nedbank Cup qualifications where he played six games.

The talented striker has no intentions of slowing down to scoring goals and sending a strong message to the professional teams in the SA top flight.

The player in question is none other than Naeem Amoojee, who also represented Baroka FC, TS Sporting, and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM], where he got his first professional football contract.

This publication caught up with Amoojee to find out what made him decide to play in the lower division.

NAEEM AMOOJEE: ‘I DON’T PLAY FOOTBALL FOR MONEY’

The 27-year-old forward reckons that he doesn’t play football for money, but for the love he has for the beautiful game.

“I don’t play football for money. So, I just want to play football. I love football. I struggled to get a team this season, as I didn’t get any offers,” Amoojee told FARPost

“So, I went back home to play for Lesco FC. Lesco is one of my former teams before I played professional football.

“I went to them to say look, I don’t have a team at the moment and I know you guys are fighting for promotion to the ABC Motsepe League and I can help you with that, and at the same time it will help me to keep myself fit.”

NAEEM AMOOJEE HAPPY WITH HIS IMPACT AT THE CLUB

Amoojee went on to say that he’s happy with the accomplishments he has achieved with Lesco so far.

“I have accomplished good things at Lesco,” added Amoojee. “I helped them finish the finals of the provincial Nedbank Cup qualifications for the first time in the club’s history.

“Unfortunately, we lost in the finals. So, at the end of the day, it’s me helping my community.”
