Why Richards Bay are struggling in SA top-flight
With just two seasons in the DStv Premiership, Richards Bay is having it hard and the mood is darkening, as everyone is feeling the pressure.
The KwaZulu-Natal side’s struggles continued over the weekend, with the club succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at FNB. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s solo goal made the difference.
Richards Bay have now lost nine of their 15 games in the SA top-flight this campaign, leaving them with their worst start to a season since their promotion in 2022.
The side is currently placed 15th on the DStv Premiership table with 10 points, six points adrift from relegation-threatened Cape Town Spurs.
As a result, Richards Bay decided to take a decisive decision to release Kaitano Tembo as the club’s head coach with immediate effect.
The club’s senior coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi will take over the coaching reins at the club until further notice.
Sanele Barns, who plays a winger at the Natal Rich Boyz revealed the key reason why they are struggling.
SANELE BARNS ON RICHARDS BAY STRUGGLES
The gifted 26-year-old footballer touched on whether his team is worse off than they were at the same stage in the last term.
“As a team, last season we started very well. But later on, it was such a dramatic finish of the season,” Barns told FARPost.
“But we are all learning. So, our second season in the top-flight I think everyone is doing their best.
“However, I wouldn’t say there’s a problem because we can win a game, draw or lose. I think it’s our inconsistent of winning our matches that’s the problem.”
SANELE BARNS FOCUSED ON HELPING THE TEAM SURVIVE THE CHOP
Barns went on to say that he is focused on helping the team move out of the relegation zone. Given the stellar displays that he has shown in their two seasons, he can save the team.
“It has been a good two seasons for me here at Richards Bay. I have been doing for myself and focusing on helping the team survive the relegation zone,” he added.
