Johnson explains why there is no need to look for a new striker
Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has reiterated his stance on new players and explained why they don’t need another striker.
Chiefs strikers have faced some criticism this season for failing to be clinical in front of goals.
Eight of the 20 goals in all competitions this season at Chiefs came from strikers while the rest came from other players. Christian Saile and Ashley du Preez have netted three times each while Ranga Chivaviro has two including the stunner against Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
But one player who has really struggled to make an impact is the Colombian striker Jasond Gonzalez who is yet to open his goal-scoring account. Some sections of the fans have questioned his signing even going as far as calling for an addition of a proven goal poacher in the team.
DO KAIZER CHIEFS NEED A NEW STRIKER?
Johnson begs to differ and insists it’s his duty to improve the strikers that he currently has.
“No, I don’t think I am going to try and find a striker. I think I am going to try and make these players better. I hope I can,” he said.
CAVIN JOHNSON HAPPY WITH ALL PLAYERS CONTRIBUTING TO GOALS
“Ranga scored today, Gonzalez is trying his best. But when you look at the points we got and you look at the goals we got. They are coming from all over the place.
“I always say, it doesn’t matter where the goals are coming from, as long as they come. If you look at how we scored, how [Pule] Mmodi scored his goal. How Mshini [Nkosingiphile Ngcobo] is because of the movement of the strikers,” he explained.
“So, the strikers might want to score the goals but he also does the movement. When he does that movement, the other person scores a goal for me. It’s a plus.”
