New face spotted at Kaizer Chiefs training

Just before they played their final game of 2023 this past weekend, Kaizer Chiefs welcomed a new face to training.

Amakhosi shared spoils with Sekhukhune United after a 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership outing. They now seem somewhat rejuvenated after a poor start to the 2023/24 season.

A run of poor results led to the sacking of Molefi Ntseki in October just four months into the job following his surprise appointment in June.

Cavin Johnson, who had been initially appointed as the Head of Academy was roped in as an interim coach. And the Soweto giants have played seven games under the 65-year-old’s guidance, winning four, drawing one and losing two.

WHO IS THE NEW FACE AT KAIZER CHIEFS TRAINING?

Just before they closed for the mid-season recess, Chiefs welcomed a new face in training with the DDC side goalkeeper Takalani Mazhamba invited to train with the senior team.

The young goalie has been in the club’s development structures for quite some time. And has the potential to be considered for the role between the sticks for the senior team in the future.

The 16-year-old was part of the squad that travelled to Algeria for the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] between April and May of 2023.

Amakhosi have had challenges in the goalkeeping department with inconsistency in the selection for the number one spot. Currently, Bruce Bvuma seems to be coming along well having seized the gloves in the past month.

Itumeleng Khune, who was the Chiefs’ number one for years, is suspended and excluded from all club activities after he was found guilty of arriving in training under the influence of alcohol.

And Brandon Peterson recently fell down the pecking order following his recurring mistakes. He’s now a backup for Bvuma.
