Pirates set R3.5 million asking price for Mabasa

Orlando Pirates are reportedly open to selling striker Tshegofatso Mabasa permanently for a fee of around R3.5 million.

Mabasa has attracted several clubs in the DStv Premiership and outside the country. The 29-year-old has been a key figure for the Moroka Swallows this season. The on-loan Buccaneers forward has played 13 games and scored six goals.

AmaZulu FC are the latest club to show interest in the forward, and indications are that Swallows are open to terminating their loan deal.

They would have kept him until the end of the season but are reportedly happy to let him go. Swallows chairman David Mogashoa has openly said the club would be willing to let go of some of their top players to manage their wage bill.

WHERE IS THE R3.5 MILLION VALUATION FOR TSHEGOFATSO MABASA COMING FROM?

Indications are that Pirates are now willing to listen to offers for Mabasa, hoping to recoup some of the transfer fee they paid for him in 2019. The club is said to be open to both domestic and international offers.

However, Orlando Pirates are unlikely to let Mabasa go for cheap. A club from outside South Africa that recently enquired about his availability were told he would cost in the region of R3.5 million.

The R3.5 million price tag reflects the experience of the former Bloemfontein Celtic forward, who was Bafana Bafana’s top scorer at the 2023 COSAFA Cup.

With a career spanning 160 games and 38 goals, Mabasa has yet to unleash his full potential. At certain spells of his career, injuries hampered his progress.

His loan spell at Sekhukhune United last season was just another chapter in his nomadic journey. However, he seemed to be settling well at Swallows. His six goals for The Dube Birds this season indicate his potential predatory instincts.
