The position Chiefs must bolster in the January transfer window

With the January transfer window now open, former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer has given his opinion on the position that the club must bolster.

This will give the Soweto giants a better opportunity to finish the season at a respectable position. To add, there’s still the Nedbank Cup to play for later this season which can see Chiefs end their nine-year trophy drought.

Ahead of the current PSL season, The Glamour Boys invested a lot in transfers bring in 10 quality players. Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Ranga Chivaviro, Edson Castillo, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Tebogo Potsane, Pule Mmodi, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Jasond González and Luke Fleurs.

Kannemeyer says Chiefs must look for another striker despite having many players in that area. They have the likes of Ashley Du Preez, Christian Saile, Jasond González and Ranga Chivaviro.

The team’s forwards have been struggling for form and consistency this season, netting a combined number of only five goals in the league.

Du Preez has one goal as he’s been unlucky with injuries, Saile and Chivaviro have scored two goals respectively. As for Gonzalez, he’s yet to settle in and score his first goal for the club.

“I think maybe in the January transfer window they should go look for a guy that can put the ball in the net,” Kannemeyer told FARPost.

“I think it’s always a mixture of change down after changes in the coaching department. There’s another coach now, players [strikers] must get used to him [Calvin Johnson].

“But, it’s never going to be easy for any player at big clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates in that matter. In my opinion, I think they need another striker, a lethal one.”
