Swallows hit with hefty fine by PSL Disciplinary Committee
Moroka Swallows have received a significant financial penalty from the PSL Disciplinary Committee for failing to honour two DStv Premiership matches.
The hefty fine by the PSL DC comes after Swallows failed to pitch up for their last two fixtures of the year – 2023, against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December due to a player strike. They were charged with misconduct on account of their non-fulfillment of the two fixtures.
Swallows have been embroiled in non-payment of salaries to their players and staff in recent times. They appeared before the PSL DC on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the charges by the League.
As a result, the PSL slapped The Dube Birds with an R1 Million fine, of which R 600,000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offence.

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu announced that the R 400 000 should be paid effectively. Both Sundowns and Arrows have also been awarded three points and three goals each for the fixtures.

“At the commencement of the proceedings after the charges were put to them, they pleaded guilty. The league accepted their guilty plea and as a result, they were convicted accordingly,” said Majavu.
“The PSL DC returned the following ruling: One; in respect of each match that was not honoured the opponents of Moroka Swallows were awarded that match on the basis of three points and three goals basis. What is referred to as a walk-over.
“Two; They were further fined a monetary amount of R 1 million of which R 600 000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offense. The balance of R 400 000 is to be paid effectively.”
“The DC further cautioned Moroka Swallows about the perilous route and fate that may fall, should they re-offend. One of the competence sanction could easily have been a suspension from the League or a total expulsion.”
