Chippa United-Kwakhe Thwala’s links prompt questions about FIFA ban
New information about Chippa United’s FIFA transfer ban has reached FARPost as the club is said to be close to completing their first January signing.
The Chilli Boys were slapped with a transfer ban by the world’s football mother body in November over a dispute with their former defender Abdi Banda.
The 28-year-old was said to have not been paid his settlement when he left the club at the end of the previous DStv Premiership season. The amount owed to him was reportedly around R1.2 million.
AGREEMENT BETWEEN BANDA AND CHIPPA UNITED
According to FARPost sources, the two parties reached an agreement last month that the player was going to be paid in January. However, it is uncertain whether the Gqeberha-based side has since paid.
When contacted for comment, the club’s chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi, said, “The transfer ban? I don’t know [whether it has been lifted]. I’ll have to check and come back to you.”

Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape side has recalled the Eswatini left-back Kwakhe Thwala, who was under assessment at the club before the end of 2023.
The 21-year-old was said to have impressed during his trial, with the club’s General Manager Sandiso Mpengesi saying, “The days he has been with the club have been enough for us to see his quality. It is looking promising for him.” as quoted by Times of Eswatini SPORT.
Moreover, according to the reports from Eswatini, Chippa have reached an agreement with Mbabane Swallows for the transfer of the defender, leaving questions about the transfer ban.
And the source close to the player added that Thwala arrived in South Africa at the beginning of this week, with Chippa returning to training after a mini-break.
Under the guidance of new co-coaching by Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo, Chippa will open their second round with a trip to Orlando Pirates on 13 February.
