Zim giants hand former JDR Stars midfielder life line

A former JDR Stars defensive midfielder has surfaced in Zimbabwe’s PSL at giants Dynamos FC, it has emerged.

Popularly known as ‘Muller’, Temptation Chiwunga is one of the highly-rated players signed by Zimbabwe’s PSL giants during the current window.

The former JDR Stars defensive midfielder has been in the Motsepe Foundation Championship since October 2020.

According to transfermarkt, the 31-year-old Zimbabwean made 10 appearances for the Pretoria-based side this season.

Chiwunga signed a two-year contract as a direct replacement for star midfielder, Junior Makunike who joined Simba Bhora amid interests from Europe.

In addition, the club also signed Namibian striker Sadney Urikhob who spent much of his time overseas.

Urikhob has a wealth of experience having also played in the DStv Premiership for AmaZulu FC between 2012 and 2014.

They also signed goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni and another midfielder Blessed Ndereki from local clubs.

Currently, the Harare-based club is also vetting a unnamed Nigerian striker and a Ghanaian midfielder. 

WHY DYNAMOS SIGNED THE FORMER JDR STARS

Moreso, Dynamos FC signed Chiwunga to reinforce their team as they prepare for the 2024/25 edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The club won the 2023 Chibuku Super Cup title which earned them an automatic ticket to the tournament – Confed Cup.

2023 league winners, Ngezi Platinum will represent Zimbabwe in the more prestigious CAF Champions League.

The country is not represented in the current edition, as they were suspended when the competition started.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Paga who tried his luck at Polokwane City in December extended his contract with Dynamos FC.

Paga had a two-week trial stint at Rise and Shine but did not make the grade to fit into their squad.

The Ghanaian attacker therefore opted to extend his stay with The Glamour Boys of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile they missed out on signing Zimbabwe’s number one goalkeeper Donovan Bernard who SuperSport United are targeting.
