AmaZulu FC players face uncertain future as retrenchment looms

A handful of AmaZulu FC players are facing an uncertain future with the club having issued notices of possible retrenchment.

Usuthu have already parted company with Tercious Malepe and Sibusiso Mabiliso who are now free agents.

With the departure of Mabiliso from the left-back position, they have since signed Sfiso Ngobeni on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns for the remainder of the season.

The KZN club also waved goodbyes to more than ten players before the start of the current season bringing in nine signings for the then-newly appointed Pablo Franco Martin.

AMAZULU PLAYERS RECEIVE NOTICES OF POSSIBLE RETRENCHMENT

FARPost has learnt that among players who received letters are Mswati Mavuso, Siphesihle Maduna, Mxolisi Kunene and Mfanafuthi Mkhize.

The aforementioned players all found themselves excluded from Pablo Franco Martin’s squad. Thus, they have been training individually since the beginning of the season.

This website spoke to Mavuso’s agent Minenhle Mkhize who was taken aback by the club’s move. He said they would fight for “what is right” for the midfielder.

“According to the constitution of the country, the employee’s contract must be respected. Mswati is contracted to AmaZulu for the next 18 months,” said Mkhize.

“If they want to terminate his contract they must just give him his 18 months and then we go. This 189-section tactic won’t work. It is a joke, to say the least. They have tried all sorts of tactics from delaying his salary to this 189 section.

“We will fight for what is right. We can’t allow a situation where we are bulldozed or people trying to run away from their responsibility. They are the ones who exercised the contract of Mavuso and committed that they will pay him for the 24 months.”

FARPost contacted AmaZulu’s PRO Philani Ndlelani to get the club’s comment. He stated, “the club will not be commenting on the matter.”

Mavuso signed for AmaZulu during Romain Folz’s tenure and his contract was extended and would end in 2025. Meanwhile, Maduna was promoted to the senior team from the club’s academy in 2018.

Kunene signed for the Durban-based side in 2021 while Mkhize joined from Uthongathi at the beginning of this season.
