How Swallows players plan to approach Nedbank tie after salary debacle

Moroka Swallows defender Vusi Sibiya has revealed how they plan to approach their Nedbank Cup tie after the recent club’s salary debacle.

This comes after the PSL conducted the draw for the 2024 Nedbank Cup round of 32 in Sandton, Gauteng, on Thursday night. The Dube Birds were drawn against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Platinum City Rovers.

Towards the end of last year, Swallows were embroiled in a salary delay saga, which led to the players’ strike. Sadly, the non-payment of salaries at the club saw Maswaiswai fail to honour their last two DStv Premiership fixtures of 2023 against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows FC.

As a result, Swallows found themselves in hot water, as they were fined by the PSL DC with charges of misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute.

VUSI SIBIYA ON HOW SWALLOWS TROOPS ARE SET TO APPROACH CUP FIXTURE

Speaking to the media after the Nedbank Cup draw, Sibiya reckons that they want to go all out to win the title and make their fans happy after all the drama the club went through.

“In preparing for the Nedbank Cup, I think every player as we play against every team we play to win. We want to win a trophy. I will be happy if we win this trophy so that we make our fans happy. It’s been long since Swallows has won a trophy. We just have to fight,” said Sibiya.

“It’s not really an advantage [playing against a lower division team]. It will be eleven against eleven at the end of the day. So, whoever has prepared well will definitely win the match. We don’t have to undermine them, but to be strong on the day of the game.

“The fact that we are playing against a team from the NFD, I think it won’t be easy for us. It’s not easy playing underdogs because you don’t have enough information about them. We just gonna prepare ourselves and be ready for the match.”

Meanwhile, the Nedbank Cup’s last 32 full fixture details will be announced in due course.
