Maritzburg United sign wing-back from Sekhukhune United

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Maritzburg United have completed the signing of an ex-Sekhukhune United wing-back.

Maritzburg have had an inconsistent start to life in the Motsepe Foundation after being relegated at the end of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign.

The Team of Choice is sitting 11th on the league table after winning five matches, drawing five while losing on seven occasions. Maritzburg accumulated 20 points in 17 games played in the NFD.

With Maritzburg having a poor start to the season, they fired Zipho Dlangalala, who took over the coaching position six months ago. Simo Dladla, who started the season as the club’s assistant coach, has since taken over the coaching role from Dlangalala.

This publication can confirm that Maritzburg has signed a former Babina Noko utility player for the second round of the campaign.

MARITZBURG UNITED SNAP UP NKANYISO MADONSELA ON A FREE TRANSFER

The KZN-based outfit signed Nkanyiso Madonsela, who has been a free agent since leaving Sekhukhune in July 2023. He spent three seasons with the Simon Malatji-owned team and made over 50 appearances.

Madonsela was part of the Sekhukhune squad that gained promotion to the SA’s top flight during the 2020/21 season.

The well-traveled left-back has been in the books of teams such as Jomo Cosmos, Golden Arrows, Royal Eagles, and Uthongathi FC.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg will be looking to improve their form in the league and join the race for promotion to the Premiership.

Championship newcomers Orbit College are currently sitting top of the table with 30 points. They are two points adrift of second-placed AmaTuks who are on 28 points.

Maritzburg will face Casric Stars at Giyani Stadium when the second half of the season resumes on the 12th of February 2024.
