CT City chairman comments on failed move for Sanele Barns
Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has commented on the failed move to lure Richards Bay FC attacker Sanele Barns to his club.
The Citizens reportedly made contact with Richards Bay during the just-ended January transfer window for the services of Barns. The talented midfielder has caught the attention of several clubs in the DStv Premiership with his impressive performances at Bay.
Amongst other teams that have added Barns to their wishlist are Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC, and Sekhukhune United.
Barns joined Richards Bay at the start of the 2022/23 season from Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit AmaTuks. In his two seasons at Bay, the 26-year-old winger has featured in 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals while making seven assists.
RICHARDS BAY’S PRICE TAG FOR BARNS CHASE CT CITY
Meanwhile, CT City’s John Comitis has admitted that they tabled an offer for Barns, but the asking price from Richards Bay was out of reach.
“Of course, Sanale Barnes is a player we wanted to sign, but it all depends on the asking price,” Comitis told FARPost. “We had a conversation with Richards Bay about Barns, but the price tag from the chairman [Jomo Biyela] was a bit out of reach for us.”
Asked whether CT City will make a second attempt to sign Khama Billiat, Comitis said, “The last time we spoke to Khama Billiat was in the last transfer window, and we tried to sign him, but now we didn’t speak to him.”
The Eric Tinkler-coached team announced the signing of Namibian international Prins Menelik Tjiueza from KF Liria.
CT City will be looking to continue their good form league after finishing the first half of the season in second position on the log.
They have 29 points after winning nine games, drawing two while suffering five defeats in 16 matches played. CT City is nine points away from log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are on 38 points.
