Tinashe Nengomasha’s only wish for Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs Legend Tinashe Nengomasha has shared his only wish for the Soweto giants as they bid to regain their glamour in the PSL.

Nengomasha is urging his former paymasters to retain Cavin Johnson as head coach. But the ex-Zimbabwe anchorman wishes that Amakhosi develops a robust trend with DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] players.

Kaizer Chiefs were not active in the just-ended January transfer window, where their rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, made key additions to their team.

Sundowns signed Zuko Mdunyelwa from Chippa United and Matias Esquivel, who came from Club Atletico Lanus in Argentina. The highly rated duo of Tashreeq Matthews and Thembinkosi Lorch also joined from IK Sirius and Pirates, respectively.

In addition, Pirates signed Thalenthe Mbatha and Thabiso Lebitso, as striker Tshegofatso Mabasa returned to the club.

Lebitso penned a two-and-a-half-year deal as he joined from Chippa United. On the other hand, Mbatha was lured from SuperSport United on a six-month loan deal.

However, the Chiefs legend Tinashe Nengomasha is not reading much into how Chiefs’ rivals flexed their muscles on the PSL transfer market.

In an interview with FARPost, he said: “Chiefs is a team that needs players with a mentality that fits well with what is expected of them.

“When you see fans getting angry, it’s because they are not getting what they are used to. They are used to winning, and perhaps the calibre of players they see is not what they want. So, at the end of the day, you see that it’s much better to have a system of promoting the top players from juniors. Those ones will have a never-say-die spirit.

“It’s exactly the mentality I saw from the likes of Scara Ngobese during our playing days. Right now, it’s very different.

“My wish is to see that trend giving us results. Those boys carry the team at heart because they know the system well. They joined the team because of their love and passion for the club,” added Nengomasha.

The Glamour Boys recently promoted the sensational Mfundo Vilakazi from the Diski Challenge team.

Vilakazi produced an eye-catching performance for the Carling All-Stars team that beat Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC 2-1.

He had been training with the senior team since December 2023, and Nengomasha wishes more budding stars to be given the same opportunity.
