What Thato Mokeke said after parting ways with CT City 

Seasoned midfielder Thato Mokeke has broken his silence following his departure from DStv Premiership side Cape Town City. 

On Thursday, 08 February 2024, the Cape club confirmed that the 33-year-old midfield maestro left the club. After five years of marriage, both parties succumbed to a decision to cut ties on a mutual agreement. 

The ex-SuperSport United man – Mokeke signed for the Citizens back in January 2019 from Chippa United.

In his five-year stay at CT City, the midfielder featured in 171 games for Erick Tinkler’s side across all competitions. His last match at the club was against KwaZulu-Natal outfit Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout Last 16 clash.

THATO MOKEKE BIDS FAREWELL TO CAPE TOWN CITY 

Mokeke took to socials to express his gratitude to those who helped him throughout her stay at CT City.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cape Town City Football Club for the years we shared together. I wish you the best for the rest of the season,” wrote Mokeke on his official social media platforms. 

His contract was supposed to come to an end in June 2024. But with the player being on the sidelines due to an injury, the club decided otherwise [letting go of Mokeke]. The veteran midfielder is the second player to leave the Citizens following the departure of Juan Zapata.

“Cape Town City has agreed to part ways with Thato Mokeke by mutual agreement,” read the club’s statement. 

“We thank Thato for his incredible contribution throughout the years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours”

Mokeke is now free to join any team of his choice and get his mojo back after recovering from the injury.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Darren Keet has signed a new two-year deal with the CT City.
