Khenyeza makes bold statement about Arrows’ 3-point walkover

Golden Arrows coach Mabhuti Khenyeza has made an emphatic statement after his side was awarded three points on the basis of a walkover.

Abafana Bes’thende along with Mamelodi Sundowns earned three points each as Moroka Swallows failed to honour the DStv Premiership fixtures against both sides last year.

The KZN outfit started this season on a high and was at some point second on the log standings behind Sundowns. However, they dropped the ball towards the end of the first round of the campaign.

They last won a league match when they downed Kaizer Chiefs in October at the Mpumalanga Stadium.

A walkover was a turn of things for Arrows who had lost all their previous seven games in all competitions.

However, Khenyeza denied that they were relieved to have received their first maximum points in their last six games. He insisted they were not worried as the club wasn’t in a bad position on the table.

“How’s it a relief because we’ve won some games before?” asked Khenyeza during the club’s media open day on Thursday.

“A person that would be relieved is someone who’s at the bottom of the log.

“Us, we’re in seventh position while there are others who are down there who’ve never won in a long time.

“We are still gonna lose or win the games, this is where we are. Who needs to get relief? The one who’s there [bottom] or the one on top?”

Arrows are now seventh on the standings with 23 points after 16 matches and will be looking resurrect themselves in the second part of the season. They face Sundowns on Wednesday, 14 February at the Mpumalanga Stadium.
