Bucs’ Thabiso Monyane provides update on his injury
Orlando Pirates wingback Thabiso Monyane has provided an update on his injury as the second round of the DStv Premiership season edges closer.
Monyane suffered an injury setback in November during the Soweto Derby clash when Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at FNB Stadium in a league clash.
The Pirates youth product has been the preferred choice at right back under Jose Riveiro in the current season. Monyane featured in 17 matches in all competitions for Pirates and scored one goal.
Monyane has also lifted the 2023 MTN8 trophy with the Buccaneers after beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the final in October.
The latter has been with the Pirates’ senior team for four campaigns after gaining promotion from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side in 2019.
MONYANE ISSUES POSITIVE UPDATE ON HIS INJURY SETBACK
With the second half of the 2023/24 season resuming next week after the 2023 AFCON break, the 23-year-old defender has issued an update on the injury.
“Well, I can say I’m good, I’m feeling good, and I’m ready to contribute towards the goals of the club,” said Monyane. “It hasn’t been the best of time [being injured] because I remember the match before I got injured.
“I scored against Sekhukhune United, and I was on a run of form. I was really looking good, and four minutes into the derby, I sustained an injury. And to me, that’s a setback, but just like any other setback, there’s a great comeback.
“So that’s past me now, and I’m really looking forward to the [FIFA] World Cup qualifiers with the national team and the club goals. I’m looking forward to taking the club to second position.”
In the absence of Monyane, the Soweto giants used the versatile Fortune Makaringe in the right wingback position.
Monyane will be looking to make it into the starting lineup when Pirates welcome Chippa United at Orlando Stadium on the 13th of February. Kick-off is at 19:30.
