PSL postpone DStv Premiership mid-week matches

PSL have taken a decision to postpone the DStv Premiership mid-week matches as Bafana Bafana are set to return on Wednesday from the 2023 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast.

The PSL made the announcement on Sunday, 11 February.

The league matches were set to be played on Tuesday, 13 February and Wednesday, 14 February, as the SA topflight resumes for the second half of the 2023/24 season after the AFCON break.

Bafana Bafana will leave Abidjan on Tuesday evening on an SAA flight via Accra, Ghana. They should land at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday in the early hours of the morning.

“Following receipt of communication indicating that Bafana Bafana will only return to South Africa from their successful AFCON trip on Wednesday, 14 February 2024, the Premier Soccer League has decided to postpone all DStv Premiership fixtures originally scheduled for midweek [13 and 14 February 2024]. The rescheduled dates for these matches will be communicated in due course,” read a statement from PSL.

Bafana Bafana will receive a hero’s welcome following their successful campaign in the 2023 AFCON. The 1996 African champions defied all odds as they finished in the semi-finals for the first time in 24 years.

Hugo Broos’ troops added a cherry on top to their success. They finished in third place and claimed the bronze medal on Saturday night.

Bafana defeated West African side DR Congo 6-5 on penalties. The match had initially ended as a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes as the two sides couldn’t find the back of the net.
