Thabiso Monyane’s major goal in the second half of the DStv Prem
Orlando Pirates fullback Thabiso Monyane has revealed the major goal he wants to accomplish in the second half of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
The SA topflight will resume on Friday, 16 February. This is after the completion of the 2023 AFCON finals that were held in Ivory Coast.
Pirates’ first test is a tricky encounter against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. The two sides will meet on Saturday, 17 February at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Kickoff is at 20:00.
Before the AFCON break in January 2024, Monyane was on the sidelines following an injury he sustained during the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs in November 2023.
In the right-back position, the 23-year-old is competing with Bandile Shandu for a spot in the starting line-up. This season he has made 17 appearances in all competitions. He found the back of the net once, which inspired Pirates to a1-0 victory against Sekhukhune United in the league.
THABISO MONYANE WANTS TO BE CONSISTENT IN HIS PERFOMANCES
The Bafana Bafana international says he wants to display consistent performances each time he’s on the field since he has fully recovered from an injury.
“I’m working towards a major goal. I’m slowly learning and getting back to the groove. The major goal is for me to become a more consistent player,” said Monyane.
“[I want to be] someone who is going to be consistent for the team and someone who the team can look up to and ‘say we can trust him’.”
Heading to the second half of the season, Monyane and Co. will be aiming to replicate their last season’s great performances. In 16 league matches, the Bucs won 11, drew two and suffered three defeats.
To add, the Sea Robbers went on to win the Nedbank Cup, defeating Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the final.
“We told ourselves that in the second half of the season, we’re going to give it our all. We’re going to do our best, anything is possible and we’re working towards that. The only thing that will talk for us is the performances on the field,” he added.
