Ex-Pirates winger talks on his new coaching journey
Former Orlando Pirates winger Tlou Segolela has hinted at pursuing a career in coaching on a full-time basis following his recent appointment.
Segolela is now head coach at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Platinum City Rovers after taking over from Nkosana Mabhena.
He previously held the role of General manager since the club’s days in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League. The 35-year-old has repeatedly been given a mandate to save the Motsepe Foundation Championship status.
TLOU SEGOLELA KEEN ON PURSUING A COACHING CAREER
“Look, I have been in football for quite some time. Even after my playing days, I have been in football, and the passion and love for the game will never go away,” he said.
“Sharing information with the young ones is very nice. So, I am enjoying the moment, but it’s a challenging one. It’s a very challenging one. You end up not having time for yourself. It’s match after match, and your concern is about players. But it’s a nice career that one will wish to continue with.
“That’s something that is in the pipeline. When the B License comes, one will do that. You will never know; in football, you never stop learning. When there is an opportunity you attend those kind of courses.”
Segolela has been in charge for six matches so far. He won three, lost two and drew one match. This includes the 3-1 loss against Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
HEAT FACTOR AS PLATINUM CITY ROVERS ARE BOTTOM OF THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP
He pointed out the heat in Thohoyandou as a major contributing factor to their loss. “We threw everything, but it wasn’t meant to be. Especially in the first half, it was very difficult.
“The boys couldn’t perform their duties but you can’t falter them. This kind of condition is very hot and unfortunately, that’s where you need to play football, and I can’t say they are used to it. The bottom line is that we are 11 against 11, and we have to fight. But it wasn’t meant to be.”
