Khama Billiat in Zimbabwe twist: Prominent Prophet and Yadah Stars boss in the mix

Zimbabwe giants Dynamos’ fans were left shocked on Tuesday night after Khama Billiat landed in Harare, only to be whisked away by a prominent prophet, who also owns a top-flight club, fuelling speculation of a potential transfer twist.

Billiat has been a subject of speculation in Zimbabwe, with three top teams initially angling for his services. The former Warriors star has been unattached for almost eight months, following his decision not to renew his stay at the Naturena.

The 33-year-old failed to find a new home in the DStv Premiership, a development that pushed him back to Zimbabwe. Billiat briefly played in Zimbabwe’s PSL for Caps United back in 2010 before joining Ajax Cape Town.

After falling from grace in the PSL, Billiat is now trekking back for another dance in his homeland.

The former Amakhosi talisman landed in the neighbouring country on Tuesday night. He was received by a group of Dynamos FC supporters, as their team angles for his services along with Ngezi Platinum Stars and Caps United.

Popular prophet Walter Magaya who owns a topflight league club, Yadah Stars, was also present.

Events took an interesting twist as Billiat left the Gabriel Mugabe International Airport with the Yadah boss. This is an indication he might have resolved to join the modest team.

However, Dynamos FC vice-chairman Vincent Chawonza has since boasted that they have the financial muscle to outbid their rivals for Billiat’s services.

“We wouldn’t have entered the race to sign Khama Billiat if we didn’t have the capacity to pay what he wants,” Chawonza said.

“We have been negotiating with him and everything has been going on well. Once we conclude the deal we will make it public,” he said.

Dynamos are also at an advanced stage with former Orlando Pirates man, Kudakwashe Mahachi.

Mahachi was released by Ghana’s Medeama SC after a brief spell in the club’s ranks.

“We are also looking at bringing in Kuda Mahachi. Negotiations with him are progressing well,” Chawonza added.

Where Billiat will end up playing this year remains to be seen. But the Zimbabwean carries a huge weight of expectations considering what he achieved in the PSL.

The 33-year-old won a litany of trophies with Mamelodi Sundowns. These include three league titles, a CAF Champions League and a CAF Super Cup title.
