Zimbabwe PSL club confirms Khama Billiat signing

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat has ended weeks of speculation after signing for Zimbabwe PSL minnows, Yadah FC.

The Zimbabwean had been clubless after parting ways with Chiefs last year. He last played competitive football last season before turning his back at Amakhosi ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Billiat rather ignored an opportunity to renew his contract with the Soweto giants. But the decision appeared to have backfired as he struggled to find a new club for eight months.

He failed to forge a deal with Cape Town City FC while nothing came up when he tried luck at SuperSport United a few weeks ago.

The highly-rated attacker was initially earmarked to join Dynamos, but he snubbed the Harare giants in a shocking transfer coup.

Billiat signed a one-year contract, as he joined a team that has won nothing in Zimbabwe since gaining promotion into the elite league in 2016.

Yadah FC have battled relegation in almost every season they have played. In truth, Billiat’s decision was inspired by the club’s financial backing as it is bankrolled by a prominent prophet, Walter Magaya.

YADAH CONFIRM THE SIGNING OF KHAMA BILLIAT

Cub chairperson Everson Chatambudza confirmed acquiring Billiat’s services on a one-year deal.

“I can confirm Khama Billiat has joined Yadah FC. We are looking forward to doing the unveiling tomorrow [Thursday]. That’s what we are working on at the moment,” Everson Chatambudza told FARPost.

“He will be with us only for a year. We want him to play for us, so he will not be loaned to Dynamos as has been reported.”

Greater details of his contract are yet to be revealed, but this publication understands that he agreed to a R280 000 signing-on fee.

How Billiat will fare at Yadah FC remains to be seen. The 33-year-old is remembered for what he achieved in the DStv Premiership season.

He won multiple trophies with Sundowns. These include three league titles. In addition, he won a CAF Champions League and a CAF Super Cup title.

At individual level, he won top awards that include the PSL Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season.

He was voted as the Midfielder of the Season in 2016 with Sundowns. Billiat finished as runner-up to Denis Onyango for the CAF African Player of the Year based in Africa award for 2016, arguably his best achievement.
