SuperSport United make a decision on Gift Motupa

Gift Motupa’s potential move to SuperSport United has been resolved, as the club has finally announced its decision on signing the free agent.

Motupa has been training with SuperSport since his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

He was hoping for a reunion with coach Gavin Hunt, whom he played under at now-defunct Bidvest Wits from 2018 until 2020. Motupa scored 17 goals in the two seasons under Hunt before his move to Sundowns.

But the move to Masandawana was not fruitful for Motupa, who has struggled for game time. The 29-year-old spent three and half seasons at Sundowns before he became clubless. He resurfaced at United, where he trained for two weeks under Hunt.

GAVIN HUNT CONFIRMS CLUB’S DECISION ON GIFT MOTUPA

“No, Gift [Motupa], we can’t [sign him],” said Hunt. “We can’t sign him this season. We won’t be able to take him. So I have spoken to him. He was just training with us to try and get fit.

‘He never has much football action, so he was just trying to get fit with us. We will see by May, June, which is only three months away,” he added.

SUPERSPORT UNITED ELIMINATED FROM CONFED CUP

Meanwhile, Hunt has also reacted to the CAF Confederation Cup elimination following their 1-1 draw against Morden Future in Polokwane on Sunday. United are currently bottom of the group with four points with only one match remaining.

“Disappointed with the result I thought we played very well and dominated. We have played well during this CAF competition with these youngsters,” said Hunt after the match.

“So anybody who watched the game you should have seen we were comfortable. I am Disappointed, but we move on. Obviously playing three games a week is not easy.”
