Chippa goalie Stanley Nwabali opens up on transfer rumours

Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has opened up on the transfer rumours around his future following his impressive performance at the 2023 AFCON.

Nwabali played a key role as Nigeria reached the final of the just-ended AFCON held in Ivory Coast. The Super Eagles claimed the silver medal in the tournament after losing to Ivory Coast in the final.

On the road to the final, Nwabali kept four clean sheets for Nigeria and proved to be one of the top-performing goalies. He narrowly missed out on the Golden Glove to Bafana Bafana’s Ronwen Williams, who had five clean sheets.

The talented goal-minder has reportedly attracted interest from several top teams on the African continent and overseas.

Nwabali is in his second season in the DStv Premiership after joining the Chilli Boys at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 27-year-old keeper has featured in 15 appearances in the league for Chippa, managing to keep the Namibian first-choice goalkeeper Lloyd Kazapua away from the start line-up.

NWABALI ADMITS HE WON’T STAY WITH CHIPPA UNITED FOR LONG

With media reports claiming that Nwabali is on the wishlist of a handful of teams, the shot-stopper has spoken about the transfer links.

“I only see offers for me online, to be honest, I only see offers online, and some of my friends take screenshots, send them to me and say that offer is coming,” said Nwabali.

“But to be honest, I’ve never seen offers on my table, but you know when there are rumours, I wish all the rumours to come to pass.”

Nwabali further insinuated that he won’t be at Chippa for long despite having a good relationship with the club chairman, Chippa Mpengesi.

“The chairman gave me a lot of reasons to work at AFCON because he sent me a lot of messages and even wished me well ahead of his own country.

“It’s something I didn’t believe; I asked myself why this man would do such a thing. I really appreciate him, and to be honest, I owe him a lot; people are saying Stanley must leave Chippa. I wish to work for him for another two years, but I don’t think that wish will come.”
