Msimango: ‘It’s a footballing problem,’ denies management issues at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has shouldered the blame for the team’s recent struggles, insisting that the problems lie on the pitch, not with the management.

Amakhosi are enduring another disappointing season, failing to win any major trophies and currently sitting outside the top spots in the DStv Premiership. This comes on the heels of an already trophyless run stretching back nine years.

Msimango’s comments come after a particularly disheartening exit from the Nedbank Cup, where they were knocked out by lower-division side Milford FC. This defeat further fuelled frustration amongst the Chiefs faithful.

However, Msimango is adamant that the blame lies solely with the players, emphasising the need for them to take ownership and improve their performance on the field.

“It’s footballing problems. I don’t want to say it’s a management problem because they give us everything we need,” Msimango said. “We just need to go out there and improve.

“We take accountability,” Msimango continued. “And we need to be honest with ourselves as players, and we need to tell each other the truth.”

MSIMANGO IDENTIFIES CHIEFS’ BIGGEST PROBLEM

Msimango’s stance echoes the recent sentiments of other Chiefs players, who have acknowledged the team’s shortcomings and vowed to turn things around.

The former TS Galaxy defender highlighted the team’s defensive improvement, conceding only one goal in recent league matches, but stressed the need for offensive improvement.

“We just need to put the ball in the back of the net,” Msimango said. He concluded by expressing his and the team’s deep disappointment and vowed to take accountability for the loss.

“We understand the magnitude of the loss and how big it was,” he said. “We truly understand, and we are the first people to take accountability.”

Chiefs’ next assignment is against Moroka Swallows, who have their own issues to resolve in the DStv Premiership. The Soweto derby takes place on Saturday at 17h45 at FNB Stadium.
