Pitso Mosimane registers his first victory for Abha Club

Pitso Mosimane has finally registered his first victory as the coach of Abha Club since taking charge in January 2024.

Abha Club defeated Al-Tai 2-0 on Friday afternoon in the Saudi Pro League at Prince Sultan Bin abdul Aziz Stadium. Polish midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak was on target as he netted a brace, scoring in both halves.

The 34-year-old broke the deadlocks just before the half-time in the 38th minute.

And in the second stanza, Abha picked up where they left off as Krychowiak doubled the lead in the 49th minute.

This was Mosimane’s third match in-charge. In the previous two matches the former Al Ahly coach failed to get the intended results.

The 59-year-old drew his first match with a 1-1 scoreline against Al-Taawoun, while in his second match, Abha lost 3-2 against Al Feiha.

The victory was what Mosimane really needed as it will be a confidence booster heading to the upcoming matches.

This season, Abha Club have been struggling for form and consistency. After 22 league matches played, they have collected 18 points, managing six wins, three draws and suffering 14 defeats in the process.

To add, they have been struggling in front of goal, only finding the back of the net 29 times. At the back, they have been shaky as they have let in 56 goals.

The victory saw Abha rise on the log standings as they moved one place up to the 17th place. They now sit above Al-Hazm who are rooted to the foot of the table.

Up next for Mosimane and his troops is an away test against Al Ettifaq. The match will be played on Saturday, 9 February at Abdullah Al Dabil Stadium. Kickoff is at 16:00.
