Following the completion of the CAF Champions League group stages, Mamelodi Sundowns have learnt three potential opponents for the quarter-finals.
The group stages campaign was concluded on Saturday evening. Sundowns had played on the day downing the mighty TP Mazembe with a slender 1-0 victory at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The Brazilians finished on top of the Group A table with 13 points accumulated from six matches. And the DR Congo giants TP Mazembe were second with 10 points in the bag after six games.
Rulani Mokwena’s men secured four wins, one draw and suffered one defeat.
The Tshwane giants won’t be drawn against the teams that finished on top of their groups. These are Asec Mimosas, Al Ahly and Petro de Luanda.
Sundowns will also avoid TP Mazembe who were their opponents in Group A and qualified for the last eight as runners-up.
THREE TEAMS THAT COULD FACE SUNDOWNS IN CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER-FINALS

- Simba SC
The Tanzanian giants finished as number two behind the Asec Mimosas. Simba won only two of their group stages games, drawing three and losing one.
The last time they played a Champions League quarter-final with a South African team was back in 2021 against Kaizer Chiefs.
Amakhosi eliminated them with a 4-3 scoreline and went on to reach the final.
- Esperance de Tunis
Esperance, along with the Angolan side Petro de Luanda were the last two teams to seal spots in the next stage of the competition.
The Tunisian outfit finished second with one point behind the leaders. Esperance collected 11 points from the possible 18.
They last met Sundowns in 2017 in the group stages where Esperance won first round with 2-1 while the second outing ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
- Young Africans
Another Tanzanian side that the DStv Premiership champions might face is Yanga SC. They qualified as runners-up of Group as they finished behind Al Ahly.
Yanga fell on the wrong side of the results in 2001 when they last met Sundowns in the Champions League. Mamelodi Sundowns knocked them out in the second round.
