Mammila opens up on being redeployed to Technical Director at Chippa

Morgan Mammila has opened up on being redeployed from the head coach position to the Technical Director role at Chippa United.

Mammila transitioned from being a football administrator to a coach in 2022 and mentored Chippa United before he was sacked at the beginning of last year.

After that, he was appointed by Moroka Swallows as Technical Director, joining the then-interim coach Musa Nyatama in the dugout.

In what was an abrupt move, he returned to Chippa at the beginning of the current season after being appointed as the head coach. But he was moved to the Technical Director role in January when the club announced Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo as co-coaches.

Mammila says adjusting to his new role has been “easy” since he was at the same job at the Dube Birds. He described it as being a “team member”, saying he works closely with new coaches for the betterment of the club.

“I think I’ve done everything in football, it’s easy for me to adjust anywhere,” Mammila said in an interview with FARPost.

“So, anything is easy for me. Football is about being a team, so I’m a team member.

“The dream of every team member is to do well, so we’re working together [with September and Kopo] for the benefit of the team and for the achievements of the team.

“If you look at the technical team, Thabo is new in the PSL and while Kopo has been there [for some time].”

Under Mammila as a coach, Chippa only won four times in 17 matches across all competitions while September and Kopo have secured one win and two draws in three matches.

The Chilli Boys are now in 13th position on the log standings with 20 points after 18 games. Ahead of them is the league encounter against Richards Bay at home on Wednesday, 6 March.
