Fabrizio Romano names two overseas teams eyeing Chippa’s Nwabali

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has named two overseas teams eyeing Nigeria and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper is reportedly on the radar of several clubs abroad following his impressive performances for both club and country.

Nwabali, currently playing for DStv Premiership side Chippa United, emerged as a star at the recent 2023 AFCON. Having earned his first cap for Nigeria in 2021, he solidified his position as the team’s starting goalkeeper at AFCON, keeping four clean sheets and conceding only four goals in seven games.

His heroics, particularly his penalty saves in the semi-final shootout against South Africa, were instrumental in guiding Nigeria to the final.

This surge in form has not gone unnoticed, with reports suggesting interest from clubs abroad making enquiries about the Super Eagles shot-stopper.

WHICH TWO OVERSEAS TEAMS WANT STANLEY NWABALI?

While revealing the two clubs, Romano said Chippa United were expected to consider Nwabali’s future in the coming months. The Eastern Cape club will likely be open to negotiations if a lucrative offer arrives, especially considering the growing interest in their star goalkeeper.

“Nigeria GK Stanley Nwabali, on the list of different clubs as Al Ettifaq in Saudi and Queens Park Rangers in the UK, have enquired about him,” he wrote on his X account.

“His South African club Chippa United will consider his future move in the next months.”

In all likelihood, the club may want to see the former Lobi Stars goalie finish the season with them and possibly move at the end of the season.

In 16 league appearances, he has kept seven clean sheets, letting in 15 goals.

Only Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City’s Darren Keet have done better than him. Williams has 10 clean sheets in 13 matches, while Keet boasts eight in 17 outings.

Chippa will not fret much over his potential departure as the Chilli Boys are also home to Namibia international Lloyd Kazapua, who was also at the AFCON with his national team.

They also have former youth international goalkeeper Darren Johnson in their books. Kewen Prince and Lukhanyo July are also waiting for their opportunities.
