Chippa coach opens up on working relationship with Mammila

Chippa United co-coach Thabo September has opened up on the working relationship with Morgan Mammila, who was back issuing instructions on the bench most recently.

Mammila was recently reshuffled to the technical director position with September and Kwanele Kopo taking over the reins.

But Mammila sat on the bench during the 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC in a DStv Premiership match at Danie Craven on Friday. He was also shown on TV issuing instructions alongside both Kopo and September.

NEW CHIPPA UNITED COACHES ENJOYING A GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH MORGAN MAMMILA

“We have a very good working relationship. We respect the space, we respect each other,” said September.

“He is actually the one who recommended us to come to the club. So we bounce ideas off each other so our working relationship is very good. We thank the chairman for him to bring us here and working for this club.

“When we look at the team we look at everyone with a fresh eye. So everyone gets an equal opportunity. We do consult with the technical director as part of the system and we get a final say,” he said.

HOW THE NEW TECHNICAL TEAM AIMS TO GIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO ALL PLAYERS IN THE TEAM

“If a player works hard and fits the style that we want to play in that particular game we give them an opportunity. Older guys and younger guys from the DDC we give them an opportunity because the game requires a different player. If [Luvuyo] Memela is doing well, we give him an opportunity.

“But if there is Aviwe Mqokozo or any player, we must give them that opportunity because that’s how we want to play. If we don’t give them and we stick to giving people opportunities because of being afraid of hurting someone, we will take the club backwards.”

In the three matches that Kopo and September have been in charge, they have won one and drawn two. They currently sit 12th on the DStv Premiership log.
